Maine Island Kayak Co has provided all levels of sea kayaking courses since 1986.

For beginners, wondering if the sport is for them; for novices and intermediates, seeking stroke improvement and seamanship training; for experienced paddlers, aspiring to become truly competent coastal kayakers; and for advanced expeditioners, seeking real water experience and British Canoe Union (BCU) and American Canoe Association (ACA) certifications. See our Calendar of Events for our scheduled courses and guest coaching. Not sure which level of instruction is best suited for you? We'd like to help.  or give us a call at 207-939-6045.

LEARN FROM THE EXPERIENCED

Maine Island Kayak Co's Registered Maine Guides and BCU and ACA trained coaches and instructors have paddled thousands of miles on various seas over the last 30 years, and have helped hundreds get a paddle wet. We believe our progressive formats will tune you into this great sport: taking you beyond simple rescues and basic maneuvering to making rewarding decisions, and enabling you to achieve your goals in the ever-changing environment.

PADDLING SKILLS, SEAMANSHIP, AND SCIENCE

MIKCo's on-water courses are designed to provide effective learning of boat handling skills, safety, and seamanship, with an awareness of our surroundings. Regardless of your level of commitment, safe sea paddling requires good seamanship and effective decision making by your group.  Our courses also offer to opportunity to lean into the magic of our marine environment’s science, history, and Tall Tales.

FOR YOUR PRIVATE GROUP OF FRIENDS

Most MIKCo courses are available for your private booking with your group of two or more. Four students is our preferred number for our lead coaches, as it allows for deeper modeling and increased group responsibility.

So…Come get a paddle wet.
