WOW! Suzanne and Liz are teaming up again in 2023 for our Women on Water weekend. Two days of learning, exploring, friendship and fun with other like-minded women. We'll work together on building skills and confidence, expanding our knowledge and applying skills in a positive, supportive environment.
Sea kayaking is a team sport. Working together is important as we learn how to safely navigate tidal currents, ocean swell and rescues in conditions. We'll build community as we paddle, share laughter and meals, and end with stories to tell and memories to cherish.
Join us! For this wonderful weekend of Women on Water.
The Dark Art of the Skinny Stick with Cheri Perry and Nick Oyler

- Dates: Saturday, July 15 - Sunday, July 16, 2023
- Time: 8:30 - 4:30
- Place: MIKCo's Kayak Beach
- Cost: $390
Explore the foundation skills of the extensive Greenland rolling repertoire: layback, forward, and sculling rolls with the paddle, norsaq, hand, and more!
Experience the elegance and ease of Greenland strokes: canted, sliding, vertical, bow & stern sweeps, bow & stern rudders, sculling draws.
Learn the balance brace, sculling brace, and chest scull, as well as low, high, and deep pry brace recoveries.
Build and practice skills. In this 2-day workshop, we will begin with a thorough breakdown of how the roll works on the land, followed by in-water coaching. We'll discuss the design features of the stick and how it functions best, and then we'll try it on the water with a strokes component. Each day we will practice what you have learned and build on that foundation.
Beginners to Advanced. Workshops are geared to all levels of rolling ability. Beginners will come away with an understanding of the foundation of rolling. Advanced rollers will have a deeper understanding of small details that allow for a breakthrough on their rolling path. Mentors will be able to add to their tool box. Our small group size allows for personal coaching.
Registration for this course is through Kayak Ways.

Spend a fun, full day on the water brushing up on basics. On the water, we'll focus on boat angle (edging and leaning), paddle angle (strokes for propulsion and strokes for support) and a review of seamanship. Peruse our Fundamentals Course Outlines for some of the topics we might cover. Join us for this jump-start on the season!

MIKCo's FastTrack - especially for women! Designed for athletic beginner, novice, and intermediate paddlers, MIKCo’s FastTrack courses have been highly effective at quickly tuning aspirants into paddlers on the sea. The FastTracks will push you farther, faster. FastTrack covers the fundamental building blocks of most sea paddling skills and rescues, with an equal emphasis on developing your seamanship: your judgmental skills of navigating, expeditioning, and appropriate bumpy water practice experience. Course-specific teaching methods are geared toward the quicker-learning paddlers willing to work for their skills and decision making. You’ll leave with exercises and tasks to continue your development, and have a basic mental framework for making wiser decisions on the sea.
FastTrack Courses include use of MIKCo’s expedition grade sea-kayaks, all kayaking gear, rescue and safety equipment and study materials. See our FastTrack Course Outline under the Ocean School tab for a complete listing of the topics we may cover.
Due to the intensive content and variable methodology, MIKCo’s FastTrack courses are designed to be taken more than once. Do not hesitate to write or call with questions about specifics or appropriateness for your interests.
